One visitor to my Multiply site commented on one of the pictures on my Normandy album as being the same scene which was painted by Monet in his lifetime and how lucky I am to have seen this place for real.
I took the pictures of these cliffs in Etretat without Monet in mind so what he saw way back in 1883-1886 was without tint of bias, the same beauty which I saw in 2008. Oh, a lot of things have changed from his time to the present. Way back then, there were very few houses in this village and those fishing boats had sails for wind power. Those sails are gone now as these boats are powered by engines. Still, the tradition of fishing remains the same as what we've witnessed when a fishing boat anchored on the shore, the sale was made through signals and whispers.
Doing google, I found out that Monet made a series of paintings on Etretat.
