It's almost six years now since my husband and I went to Normandy for our first ever holiday in this part of France. Our base was in a very nice holiday house in Pont l'Eveque from where we've seen quite a great deal of this French region.
Being raised in a Catholic family and educated in a Catholic school from elementary to high school, I've always been aware of saints who led exemplary lives. One of my favorites is St. Therese and it was amazing to be in the place where she grew up and practiced her saintly deeds.
Lisieux is less than an hour's drive from our place so we spent a day simply tracing her footsteps in the many places where she has been. We went to her childhood home which was open to visitors, lighted a candle at the cathedral where she used to serve during masses, visited the Carmelite monastery which she entered at a tender age and even saw some of her personal effects. Last place we visited was the basilica which was erected in her honor.
